Business model for Urban Agriculture in Hof van Twente

Through the Business Models lectorate I am researching a new business model for the Urban Agriculture Foundation. The municipality of Hof van Twente has been supporting the Urban Agriculture Foundation for several years with incidental, financial contributions. According to the municipality, the foundation contributes in an innovative way to various goals in the field of greening, biodiversity, reintegration and poverty policy.

However, for the future, the Urban Agriculture Foundation strives for a sustainable business model. In which not subsidy is the starting point of work, but the performance reward for contribution to social goals. And where other sources of income are also tapped. In order to realize and monitor this, it is important to review the current business model and to design a new business model with all stakeholders.

To design a new business model together with the stakeholders, I used the Focus group tool to retrieve ideas. Through an interactive work session in which stakeholders devised activities for themes that are linked to Urban Agriculture. This yielded the following result:

To look at working business models from all ideas, I let myself be inspired by the Business Model Maps tool. And made maps myself that I used in a following session with stakeholders:

The maps serve as the basis for a discussion about business model options. New forms and combinations were found that can be applied for the Urban Agriculture foundation in the municipality of Hof van Twente. In this way, I designed a new business model together with stakeholders.
